Interview with Romain Jeanneau from the LOUIS-PASTEUR FRENCH HIGH SCHOOL IN BOGOTÁ, leader in the development of the multi-user immersive content "The Solar System".

We spoke to Romain Jeanneau, who has worked with Virtual4 on the development of multi-user immersive content on astronomy at the French Lyceum of Bogotá. In this interview he tells us about the idea, the execution process and the objectives of this project.

Virtual4: Tell us your story, how long have you been in Colombia and what is your role at the French Lyceum?

Romain Jeanneau: I have been in Colombia for 3 years working at the Louis Pasteur French School in Bogotá and I have the role of Pedagogical Advisor for the Virtual Reality project, helping teachers develop immersive modules.

V4: What is the content of Astronomy about and what educational objectives does it meet?

RJ:The idea is to discover the Solar System, that is, the Sun and the planets. Then, to experience the real scales of the planets compared to the Sun and also the distances of the Solar System, which are very large, much larger than we imagine.

V4: How was the experience of working with VIRTUAL4 to bring content about the solar system to life?

RJ: It has been a very efficient and fluid collaboration. It is very easy to work with them because they are very proactive. We have few meetings, but they are very efficient and we move forward very quickly.

V4: How do you think the use of immersive technology currently contributes to primary and secondary education?

RJ: The most important thing is the change we can make in a class through immersion. For example, The Solar System is an immersion that is really impactful for students, since it is a different way of approaching a pedagogical sequence. That is, we can use the immersive module at the beginning, in the middle or at the end of the sequence and then complement the class with classroom work.

V4: What do you think it means for the French Lycée of Bogotá to have a Multi-User Immersive Room?

RJ: It is a great opportunity for students because it is something very modern. In addition, it is a new and very important pedagogical tool for teachers.

V4: Do you think that this type of content can help other international schools or institutes to meet their educational objectives regarding science and astronomy?

RJ: Of course, because these modules that are being developed are already available to other schools. It is a very large project that takes several months and involves many people working behind the scenes, but in the end interesting content is created that is ready to be used by other institutions.

V4: Could you give us a preview of what’s coming next for the Liceo in terms of new immersive content?

RJ: The travels of Ulysses, which is in the process of development, and also content on the Cell, which requires a lot of work, but it will be very interesting to be able to have an immersion inside the cell, to be able to see the mitochondria, the membrane, its nucleus and the DNA. There are also other projects related to mathematics, to understand volumes, for example. Many important projects are coming.
